Mosquera Reflects on Costly Error as Arsenal Fall to PSG in Champions League Final

Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera has spoken publicly about the mistake that led to Paris Saint-Germain’s equalizer in last Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final, describing the experience as painful but one that will ultimately make him stronger.

The Gunners suffered heartbreak after losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout to PSG following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Mikel Arteta’s side had made a dream start to the final, taking the lead in the fifth minute through Kai Havertz, whose powerful strike found the roof of the net. Arsenal then produced a disciplined defensive display and appeared on course to lift the trophy as they protected their advantage throughout the first half.

However, PSG continued to push for an equalizer and eventually found a way back into the contest through a costly mistake from Mosquera.

The 21-year-old defender, who was preferred in the starting lineup ahead of Jurrien Timber, brought down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the penalty area after lunging from behind. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and Ousmane Dembele converted the resulting penalty to level the score.

Following the incident, Mosquera was substituted for Timber as Arsenal sought to regain control of the match. Despite their efforts, the game remained level through extra time before being decided by penalties.

Arsenal’s hopes were dashed in the shootout after Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes failed to convert their spot-kicks, handing PSG the European crown.

Despite the disappointment of losing the Champions League final, Arsenal proceeded with an open-top bus parade to celebrate their Premier League title triumph.

Speaking after the parade, Mosquera shared an emotional message on Instagram, reflecting on the dramatic turn of events.

“Wow… How swiftly everything can shift in just a few moments. When it seems like everything is going perfectly, just as you have envisioned since childhood, suddenly, in an instant, one action alters everything,” he wrote.

The Spanish defender admitted the outcome was far from what he had dreamed of but said the setback had strengthened his faith and determination.

“I have dedicated my life to dreaming of moments like this, but it did not unfold as I had hoped. And that is when God reminded me that faith is not contingent upon the final outcome I achieve, but rather on how I continue to trust after facing a setback.

“This setback, despite the pain it brings, will ultimately make me stronger.”

Mosquera also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Arsenal squad, vowing to learn from the experience as he continues his development at the north London club.
