Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed claims that the Supreme Court nullified the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national convention held in Abuja between March 29 and 30, 2026.
Reports had emerged that a Certified True Copy, CTC, of the apex court’s recent judgment on the PDP leadership crisis showed that the faction loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, lost in the battle over the party’s leadership structure.
The reports further alleged that the Supreme Court declared the Abuja convention illegal and affirmed the suspension of prominent figures in the Wike-backed faction, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Kamaldeen Ajibade.
However, speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Saturday night, Olayinka denied the claims, insisting that the issue of suspension was never raised before either the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court.
According to him, “The issue of the March 29 convention was not in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court is not a father Christmas. There was no contention on that. What you did not take to court, the court will not begin to talk about it.”
He explained that the matter before the apex court originated from proceedings at the Appeal Court and did not involve the legality of the PDP convention.
“What went to the Supreme Court was from the Appeal Court. What they are saying is Sam Anyanwu was suspended by the Appeal Court and Supreme Court affirmed his suspension,” he said.
Olayinka further argued that Senator Anyanwu’s name was not mentioned in the Appeal Court judgment, questioning how it could then appear in the Supreme Court ruling.
“If there was no mention of his name in the Appeal Court judgement, then how would his name suddenly surface in the apex court? His name was not mentioned,” he added.
When directly asked whether the Supreme Court nullified the March 29 PDP convention, Olayinka responded: “No, it is a lie.”
