Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has been abducted by suspected bandits from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at the judge’s home along Zogirma Road shortly after he returned from a trip to Sokoto State.
According to reports, the armed assailants stormed the residence and forcefully whisked the judge away. A source said the gunmen arrived shortly after Justice Bunza got back from Sokoto and carried out the abduction.
“He had just returned from Sokoto when the gunmen stormed his residence and took him away,” the source was quoted as saying.
The source further disclosed that although no member of the household was injured during the attack, the kidnappers fired several gunshots indiscriminately before fleeing the scene with the judge.
The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, acknowledged the abduction but did not immediately provide further details regarding ongoing efforts to rescue the judicial officer or apprehend the perpetrators.
The abduction adds to growing concerns over insecurity and the increasing targeting of prominent individuals in parts of northern Nigeria. Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to secure the judge’s safe release and bring those responsible to justice.
