The SHAMPSY Support Group for Alia 2027 has emerged as one of the most active grassroots political structures in Benue State, dedicated to mobilizing support for the re-election of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, as Governor of Benue State in the 2027 elections.
Convener Hajia Shamsiya Adamu Magajiyan, a respected community leader and advocate for Muslim inclusion in Benue politics, established the group to coordinate, canvass, and mobilize massive support for Governor Alia, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Hajia Shamsiya, who holds the traditional title of Magajiyan, has appointed coordinators in each of the 23 Local Government Areas of Benue State. These coordinators are responsible for organizing Muslim stakeholders, traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, and religious leaders to ensure the APC’s message of continuity and development reaches every ward. The group has already demonstrated its early commitment by producing 35 banners and mounting them strategically across the Makurdi metropolis. This visibility campaign is the first phase of a wider statewide mobilization drive targeting APC Muslim communities in all 23 LGAs.
According to Hajia Shamsiya, SHAMPSY is not just a political structure but a platform for civic education, peacebuilding, and community engagement. “Our aim is to ensure that Muslims in Benue understand that their future is secured under a government that treats everyone fairly, regardless of faith or ethnicity,” she stated.
WHY HAJIA SHAMSIYA ESTABLISHED SHAMPSY: THE ALIA RECORD OF DELIVERY.
The decision to form SHAMPSY Support Group stems directly from the visible and measurable impact of Governor Alia’s administration since May 29, 2023. Hajia Shamsiya has repeatedly emphasized that the Governor’s performance has given APC members across religious lines a compelling reason to organize early for continuity. Below are the key achievements that informed the establishment of the group:
1. RESTORATION OF PEACE AND SECURITY.
When Governor Alia assumed office, Benue was grappling with persistent insecurity, herder-farmer clashes, and widespread displacement. His administration prioritized peacebuilding through dialogue, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with federal security agencies. The government established a Benue Security Council that meets regularly to review threats and coordinate responses.
For Muslim communities in LGAs such as Logo, Guma, Makurdi, Buruku, and Kwande, which bore the brunt of violence, the return of relative calm has been transformative. Markets have reopened, farmlands are being cultivated again, and displaced persons are gradually returning home. This environment of safety has allowed religious activities, trade, and education to resume, giving communities hope for long-term stability.
2. INFRASTRUCTURE AND URBAN RENEWAL.
Governor Alia’s “Urban Renewal Policy” has changed the face of major towns in Benue. In Makurdi, Gboko, Otukpo, and Katsina-Ala, the administration embarked on massive road rehabilitation, drainage construction, and street lighting projects. Key roads such as the High-Level Roundabout to Wurukum, Gboko township roads, and Otukpo internal roads have been reconstructed or are ongoing.
These projects have improved transportation, reduced flooding, and boosted commerce. For Muslim traders, transporters, and artisans who depend on daily movement of goods and people, the economic impact is direct and immediate. The Governor has also initiated the construction of modern markets and motor parks to decongest urban centers.
3. CIVIL SERVICE AND WORKERS’ WELFARE REFORMS.
One of the first actions of the Alia administration was to address the backlog of unpaid salaries and pensions that had accumulated over years. Today, civil servants, teachers, and pensioners receive their entitlements promptly. The government also implemented a transparent payroll system to eliminate ghost workers and ensure that genuine workers are paid.
