Tension erupted in Lafia, the capital of , earlier today following a violent clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Eyewitnesses said the confrontation broke out in parts of the city during a political gathering, leading to panic among residents and traders in the area. The situation reportedly caused temporary disruption of movement as people fled to safety.
Sources disclosed that members of both parties engaged in heated arguments before the situation escalated into physical violence. Several persons were said to have sustained injuries, although the exact number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Security operatives were later deployed to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area. Residents said police officers and other security personnel intervened to disperse the rival groups.
