Activists and aggrieved customers on Wednesday stormed the headquarters of in Abuja, protesting what they described as the company’s high cost of services and poor value for money.
The demonstrators, led by popular Nigerian activist , gathered at the telecom giant’s premises chanting “MTN Ole!” while demanding immediate action to address rising tariffs and alleged exploitative practices.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesters accused the company of imposing exorbitant charges on subscribers without corresponding improvement in service quality. They insisted that Nigerians deserve affordable and reliable telecommunications services.
“We demand that MTN immediately stop all the exorbitant charges. We need quality service in the country,” one of the protesters said during the demonstration.
The protester further lamented cases of subscribers being billed for services not rendered, citing a recent complaint from a customer who allegedly paid a significant amount for data but did not receive it.
“That’s the story of many Nigerians,” the protester added, calling for regulatory intervention and accountability from service providers.
The protest comes amid growing public frustration over the rising cost of telecommunications services in Nigeria, with many users expressing concerns about data pricing and network performance.
Meanwhile, the (NANS) has also announced plans to stage protests against South African-owned businesses, including and , over ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The student body said the planned picketing is aimed at drawing attention to the treatment of Nigerians abroad and pressuring companies linked to the country to take a stand.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from MTN Nigeria regarding the protest.
