The Kwankwasiyya movement has declared that only Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso command what it described as “organic support” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position comes amid ongoing jostling for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as opposition figures begin to position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
Speaking on Arise Television, the spokesperson of the movement, Habib Mailemo, said the followership enjoyed by Obi and Kwankwaso is rooted in personal conviction rather than political inducement or reliance on entrenched party structures.
The movement’s remarks were also aimed at countering claims surrounding the popularity of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Mailemo argued that Atiku’s support base is largely driven by governors and the established structures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“It is only Peter Obi and my principal, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who have organic followers that are not induced by anything,” Mailemo said during the interview.
He added that the aspirations of both politicians resonate with the masses due to what he described as their competence and track records, noting that their supporters identify with their vision and leadership style.
The development highlights growing political realignments within opposition parties as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
