President Bola Tinubu has reconstituted the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), appointing Musiliu Oseni as its new chairman.
The reconstitution was confirmed on Thursday by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, following the Senate’s confirmation of the commission’s members.
Oseni, who joined NERC as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as vice chairman, assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until he completes the mandatory 10-year term at the commission, in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.
Yusuf Ali, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, has been named vice chairman of the board. His appointment also took effect from December 1, 2025, and will last until the end of his first term.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Nathan Shatti, who is serving a second term as commissioner after his initial appointment in January 2017, and Dafe Akpeneye, also on a second term following his first appointment in January 2017.
Aisha Bello remains on the board for a second term, having been initially appointed in December 2020, while Chidi Ike, first appointed in February 2022, is returning for another term as commissioner.
Fouad Animashaun joins the board for his first term as commissioner, effective December 2025. The Presidency described him as an energy economist with extensive experience in Nigeria’s power sector, noting that he most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has charged the newly constituted NERC board to strengthen and sustain ongoing reforms in the power sector, in full compliance with the provisions and intent of the Electricity Act, 2023.
