Investigation Uncovers Widespread Extortion and Corruption at Kwara State Polytechnic

A thorough investigation has exposed a systemic culture of extortion and corruption at the Kwara State Polytechnic, with a senior lecturer, Mr. Abdul Olarewaju Hassan, at the center of the scandal. Hassan, a former Head of the Estate Management and Valuation Department, allegedly extorted millions of naira from students in exchange for good grades.

The investigation revealed that Hassan’s actions were not isolated, but rather part of a broader culture of corruption within the institution. Students who refused to pay were failed or forced to retake courses, while those who paid higher sums received better grades.

The report also highlighted the institution’s lack of action in addressing the allegations, despite multiple petitions and complaints. The rector, Dr. Abdul Jimoh, has been accused of sitting on the recommendations of a panel that investigated Hassan’s actions.

This exposé is the latest in a series of corruption scandals to rock the Kwara State Polytechnic, including the diversion of student funds and false claims about the institution’s financial status.
