Six Suspects Released in Connection with Ibadan Stampede that Claimed 40 Lives

The Oyo State Police Command has released six suspects arrested in connection with the December 18 stampede at a children’s carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State, which resulted in the loss of about 40 lives. The released suspects were among the eight people arrested in connection with the tragic incident held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan .

Those released include Olowola Oluwatosin, Genesisi Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisoloja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimileyin. However, the school principal, Fasasi Abdullahi, and Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, are among those still in custody.

The police had initially announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the stampede, which occurred during a children’s funfair at Basorun Islamic High School, Ibadan. The incident resulted in the deaths of 35 minors, with six others critically injured .
