Osun Governor Intervenes in Death Sentence Case of Teenager Who Stole Fowl

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has intervened in the case of a teenager, Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl and eggs from a poultry farm in Oyan, Odo-Otin local government area.

Adeleke has directed the state’s Attorney General to investigate the case and ensure that Olowookere is considered for the prerogative of mercy before the year’s end. The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Olowookere, who was 17 years old at the time of the crime, has been detained at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. His parents had pleaded with Adeleke for amnesty and pardon for their son, who is their only child.

The governor, in a post on his X handle, stated that he had ordered a review of the case following reports of the death sentence. He assured the public that the matter is receiving his direct attention with a sense of urgency.
