Otti Declares Open-Door Leadership: ‘No One Dictates to Me on Governance in Abia’

UMUAHIA – Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his commitment to an independent and transparent style of governance, emphasizing that he operates an open-door policy free from political godfathers or undue influence. Speaking at St. James Methodist Church, Umuda, Isingwu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area during a Thanksgiving service organized by the council’s Mayor, Hon. Smart Ihuoma, Governor Otti made it clear that while he values constructive suggestions, only those that align with the state’s progress will be implemented.

“One of the biggest challenges in politics is the undue influence that comes when people are sponsored into office by powerful individuals or groups. Those who fund your way into office often expect to dictate your every move,” Otti remarked. “But I can assure you that we are independent and grounded on our principles. Our only godfather is God in heaven. We are open to advice and suggestions, but they will not be treated as commands.”

Governor Otti further stressed that his administration’s foundation is firmly rooted in integrity and divine guidance, making it impossible for anyone to derail his vision for Abia State. He underscored that political independence allows his government to remain people-focused and dedicated to delivering tangible progress.

“It is far too late for anyone to derail this administration. We are firmly established, and we will continue to build a legacy that will stand the test of time,” he said.

The governor expressed confidence that his administration’s achievements would set a new standard in governance, raising the bar for political aspirants in Abia State. He assured the people that individuals with no vision, character, or substance would find it difficult to contest elections in the state after witnessing his administration’s impact.

“By the time we are done serving, those without meaningful contributions will have no place contesting elections in Abia. We are raising the bar, and there will be no going back,” Otti asserted.

He cited the example of Anambra State’s transformation in 1999 under Dr. Chris Ngige. Despite Ngige’s short tenure, his accomplishments became a benchmark that future administrations could not fall below. According to Otti, Anambra’s progress demonstrates the power of visionary leadership, and Abia State is poised to follow a similar path.

“Since Dr. Ngige’s tenure, the people of Anambra have remained vigilant in safeguarding their democracy, ensuring they never return to the dark days of stagnation and mismanagement. That is the kind of legacy we are building here in Abia,” Otti added.

Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the growing public interest in governance across Abia State, attributing it to his administration’s transparency and open engagement with citizens. He reiterated his commitment to accountability, promising to maintain regular media interactions where he would provide updates on his stewardship and address citizens’ concerns.

“Transparency remains the bedrock of this administration. We are open to answering questions from the public and accounting for every decision we make. The trust of Abians is invaluable, and we will not take it for granted,” he affirmed.

Governor Otti thanked the members of St. James Methodist Church for their prayers and continued support, acknowledging the role of faith in guiding leadership. He concluded by pledging to deliver on his promises and ensure that Abia State experiences unprecedented growth and development under his watch.

“We are here to serve, and we will not disappoint the people of Abia State. With your support and prayers, this administration will deliver a future everyone can be proud of,” he concluded.
