Heavy casualties have been reported among North Korean soldiers in clashes with Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region. According to Ukraine’s military intelligence, at least 30 North Korean soldiers were killed or wounded on December 14 and 15 near the villages of Plekhovo, Vorozhba, and Martynovka.
The North Korean troops had been deployed to the region by Russia to support its forces. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the increasing involvement of North Korean soldiers, stating that Russia has started deploying them in combined units to push Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region.
Western officials estimate that at least 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to support Russian forces. The conflict has seen significant losses on both sides, with Ukraine’s military intelligence reporting that North Korean units are being replenished with fresh personnel.
