Edo State Governor Okpebholo Establishes Committee to Investigate Former Governor’s Administration

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to investigate the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The committee, set to be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Government House in Benin City, will be led by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe as chairman.

Other members of the committee include Anslem Ojezua as deputy chairman, Frank Edebor as secretary, and 11 additional members: Kassim Afegbua, Patrick Ikhariale, Taiwo Akerele, Patrick Idiake, Rasaq Bello-Osagie, Fredrick Unopah, Abdallah Eugenia, Patrick Obahiagbon, Kenny Okojie, Lyndsey Tes-Sorae, and Abass Braimoh.

According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the establishment of the committee is part of Governor Okpebholo’s initiative to ensure probity, accountability, and transparency in governance. Despite repeated calls, the previous administration, led by Godwin Obaseki, provided only limited information on the state’s assets and liabilities. The committee’s inauguration is scheduled for 1 pm at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
