The election of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has been voided by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.
Governor Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the March 18 governorship election by electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but outgoing governor, Bello Mattawale and the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenged the victory of Lawal.
The Election Petition Tribunal had upheld Lawal’s election, but the APC proceeded to the Appeal Court.
A three-member panel of justices today annulled the victory of Lawal and ordered a rerun of the election in three local government areas.
The affected LGAs are Maradun, Birnin Magaji and Bukuyun.
