Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to file a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the convener of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), over allegations linking him to murder and bribery.
In a letter issued through his lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), Gbajabiamila demanded the immediate removal of all videos containing what he described as defamatory statements. He also requested that Adeyemi publish a full retraction and apology in at least five national newspapers and across all social media platforms where the June 26 press conference was shared.
Pinheiro described the allegations as false, malicious, reckless and lacking any factual basis, arguing that they were intended to portray the Chief of Staff as corrupt and implicated in murder. He maintained that Gbajabiamila had never met or interacted with Adeyemi, making the claims unfounded.
The lawyer further stated that it was troubling that Adeyemi allegedly made the statements after criminal charges had already been filed against him. He warned that failure to meet the demands within 72 hours would leave Gbajabiamila with no option but to pursue legal action without further notice.
The dispute stems from controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. In June, the Presidency denied the existence of the PFIPC, insisting no such body operates under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Earlier, on June 11, Gbajabiamila had stated that neither his office nor the Presidency appointed Adeyemi to any position connected with the organisation.
However, during a June 26 press conference, Adeyemi challenged the Presidency’s position, claiming the PFIPC was captured in the 2026 budget despite official denials. He also alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to facilitate his appointment. Adeyemi further called for an investigation into the death of Babatunde Tanimola, whom he described as an intermediary, while claiming there had been attempts on his own life.
The Presidency has continued to deny any affiliation with the PFIPC, while Gbajabiamila has dismissed Adeyemi’s allegations as false and defamatory.
