Dangote Cement Plc has announced the delivery of hundreds of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, as part of its plan to convert over 7,000 diesel-powered vehicles in its fleet to CNG by the end of 2026. The company currently operates 3,100 mono-fuel CNG trucks, a significant increase from 1,500 in October 2024.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Dangote Cement Customers Awards & Gala Nite held in Lagos on Tuesday, May 27, Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability and alignment with Nigeria’s clean fuel policy.
“In line with our sustainability goals, we are converting our entire truck fleet to CNG by 2026. We’ve made substantial investments in new trucks and infrastructure to support this transition,” Pathak said. He added that the company’s alternative fuel efforts have earned global recognition, including a commendable score from CDP for climate change and water security.
Two days later, on May 29, Dangote Cement officially confirmed the arrival of the latest batch of CNG trucks, twenty-eight of which were handed over to top dealers during the Gala Nite.
This development follows Dangote Cement’s October 2024 announcement of a $280 million (₦460 billion) investment in CNG technology and infrastructure, aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNG-i). At that time, Pathak revealed the company had already received its first 1,500 mono-fuel CNG trucks and was expecting an additional 1,600 before year-end.
“With these steps, we are on track to operate a CNG-dominant fleet by mid-2026. Our ongoing investments also include expanding the CNG refuelling network to ensure uninterrupted operations across our supply chain,” Pathak stated.
