Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Threads, WhatsApp, and Instagram, is set to implement another round of layoffs across its operations in Africa, Europe, and Asia starting Monday next week.
According to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Friday, the company notified employees of the impending job cuts. Notices will be sent out beginning at 5 a.m. local time on Monday in most countries, including the United States, according to a post by Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale.
However, the layoffs will not affect employees in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands due to local labor laws. Staff in over a dozen other countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa will receive their notifications between February 11 and February 18.
Last month, Meta confirmed plans to trim about 5% of its “lowest performers” and refill at least some of the positions.
In the memo, Gale described the cuts as “performance terminations.” Unlike previous company-wide layoffs, Meta will keep its offices open on Monday and will not provide additional updates on the decisions, she stated.
Meanwhile, a separate memo from VP of Engineering for Monetization, Peng Fan, urged employees to assist in an accelerated hiring process for machine learning engineers and other “business critical” engineering positions.
This expedited hiring will take place from February 11 to March 13.
> “Thank you for your continued support in helping us achieve our accelerated hiring goals, and better align with our company’s priorities for 2025,” Fan wrote.
