In a move aimed at addressing the longstanding conflicts between herders and farmers, President Bola Tinubu announced on Tuesday the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development. The announcement was made at the State House in Abuja, during the inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms.
The Committee, chaired by President Tinubu, with former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega as Deputy Chairman, is tasked with proposing recommendations to promote peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers, ensuring national security and economic prosperity.
This development is part of the administration’s broader efforts to boost the livestock and dairy industries, and the new ministry will work alongside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to achieve this goal.
While the minister for the new ministry is yet to be announced, President Tinubu has emphasized the significance of this initiative in resolving conflicts, creating employment opportunities, and promoting economic growth.
