Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar Reportedly Killed by Bandits in Katsina

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has reportedly been killed while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that security authorities had received intelligence indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his abductors.
According to Danmusa, efforts are still ongoing to recover the remains of the late general.
“Security authorities had received information indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his abductors,” the commissioner said.
He, however, noted that security operatives have yet to recover the body, adding that search efforts are continuing to locate his remains.
Major General Abubakar and his wife were abducted by armed bandits on May 30 along the Matazu axis of Katsina State while travelling through the area.
Their abduction sparked widespread concern across the country, particularly within military circles, given the retired officer’s distinguished service record and his former role as Director of Defence Information.
Following the incident, the Katsina State Government and security agencies had expressed optimism that the retired general would be rescued alive. However, the latest development has cast a shadow over those hopes.
Authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the circumstances surrounding his reported death or the whereabouts of the abductors.
Security agencies are continuing investigations and search operations in the area as efforts intensify to recover the body and bring those responsible to justice.
