The All Progressives Congress (APC) has just concluded its primaries across the country, and flag bearers for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and President have emerged.
In Benue State, the exercise, adjudged as well coordinated, will remain indelible, serving as a reference point in the political history of the state.
Beyond the emergence of candidates and flag bearers, the exercise stood out for its peaceful conduct, massive participation, and overwhelming display of party unity across the local government areas.
From the bustling streets of Makurdi the state capital, to the rural communities of Obagaji, Agila, Anwase, Chito and all other areas scattered across the state, the party faithful turned out in enmass, demonstrating unprecedented enthusiasm and renewed confidence in the party.
Throughout the duration of the exercise that lasted for one week, the atmosphere remained calm, orderly, and largely devoid of rancour, violence, and confusion that hitherto characterized such political primaries. This did not happen by accident.
The large turnout witnessed during the exercise and the overwhelming success recorded during the primaries reflect the increasing confidence of the people in the party and in the administration of Governor Alia. It is a testament to the acceptance of the astute and dynamic leadership of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia within the APC family in Benue State.
Since assumption of office, Governor Alia has deliberately and is consistently building bridges across political divides, inspiring confidence among party members, and deepening grassroots participation through inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership.
His calm disposition, people oriented programmes, and commitment to fairness have continued to strengthen internal cohesion within the party.
His open leadership style has helped to reduce tensions and foster a collective sense of purpose among stakeholders, party executives, youths, women, and supporters across the state.
The recent reconciliation that brought together stakeholders of the party and finally ushered peace within the party’s fold, has also contributed greatly in building confidence and bringing calmness in the APC in Benue.
Another critical factor behind the success of the exercise was the transparent coordination by party officials and electoral committees who ensured that processes were conducted strictly in line with party guidelines.
The various security agencies also deserve commendation for maintaining peace and professionalism throughout the duration of the exercise.
Overall, the peaceful primaries have sent a strong signal to the rest of the country that Benue APC is becoming more organized, mature, and united under one purposeful leadership.
Already, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the exercise. When approached by journalists to assess the exercise, he said, “I am very satisfied that Governors have done well in their various states.
”In fact, from the ward congresses to Local Government congresses to the delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and the certification of the electoral process. It has been done very well, and with this, you could rate democracy at a high level.”
As the APC prepares for the 2027 General Elections, the outcome of the primaries has no doubt energized the party’s base and reinforced the belief that unity, discipline, and visionary leadership remain the strongest ingredients for political success.
The Benue APC has spoken with one voice, and that voice echoes stability, confidence, and hope for a greater future.
