Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Kayode Are, has officially assumed office as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States after presenting his letter of credence to US President Donald Trump at the White House.

Are formally began his diplomatic assignment on Thursday following the presentation ceremony held in Washington, marking the commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s top envoy to the United States.

His appointment forms part of the ambassadorial nominations forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu in November 2025.
Before his new diplomatic role, Are served as director-general of the DSS, Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, where he played key roles in national security and intelligence operations.

His assumption of office is expected to further strengthen diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in areas of security cooperation, trade, and bilateral engagement.
