The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has called for unity within the All Progressives Congress in Benue State following controversies trailing the party’s recent primaries.
Speaking at the Makurdi Airport on Friday, Akume urged members of the party to remain calm and united despite complaints and allegations of irregularities recorded during the state, National Assembly, and governorship primaries.
The SGF said he desired for the APC in Benue to continue operating as “a united family,” while acknowledging that several party members had raised concerns over the conduct of the exercises.
He warned that those found culpable of wrongdoing during the primaries would face consequences “at the appropriate time.”
Akume also expressed concern over allegations surrounding the diversion of election materials during the primaries, describing the development as troubling.
He, however, appealed to party faithful not to lose confidence in the process and encouraged them to participate in the APC presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, expressing optimism that the exercise would be more transparent and credible.
The former Benue State governor further stated that the people of Benue remained loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expressed confidence in the President’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The developments come amid growing political tensions within the Benue APC, particularly between supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia and loyalists of Akume, a rivalry that has fueled factional disputes within the party in recent months.
