PDP Declares Jonathan 2027 Campaign Posters Fake, Warns INEC Against Fraudulent Registration

The Tanimu Turaki faction of the has dismissed as fake campaign posters bearing the image of former President currently circulating across social media platforms.

The party made its position known on Saturday in a statement issued by its Interim National Working Committee and signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

According to the statement, the posters falsely portray Jonathan either as a sole presidential candidate or paired with other prominent Nigerians as running mates under the platforms of different political parties.

The PDP faction stated that the former President remains a registered member of the party under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, stressing that Jonathan personally participated in the party’s recently concluded digital membership registration exercise.

The statement read in part, “Campaign posters bearing the photographs of President Goodluck Jonathan, either alone or paired with other notable Nigerians as running mate, have emerged and are being circulated widely on social media platforms.

“These posters also falsely portray him as a member of the various political parties whose logos appear on them.”

The party further clarified that Jonathan personally confirmed his membership status during a meeting with members of the Interim National Working Committee held on Friday.

It added that the clarification became necessary because the Electoral Act prohibits and punishes double party registration.

The PDP faction also alleged that some “mischief makers” may attempt to unlawfully register Jonathan and other opposition figures in the databases of different political parties in order to create confusion ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We therefore put the public, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission, on notice of this malfeasance and urge them to discountenance any such fraudulent activity,” the statement added.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several opposition figures and parties already intensifying consultations and strategic meetings across the country.
