Plateau Govt Arrests Suspects Over Threats of Post-Ramadan Attack in Jos

Plateau state

The Plateau State Government has confirmed the arrest of individuals who allegedly issued threats of attacks in Jos following the Ramadan period.

The State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed this on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television monitored by Daily Post.

Her statement comes in the wake of a deadly attack in Jos, where at least 20 people were killed and several others injured after heavily armed gunmen stormed the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area on Sunday.

Reacting to the incident, Ramnap dismissed claims that the government had prior knowledge of the attack without taking action.

“To start with, no government will be aware that they will be attacking the community and they will not do anything about it,” she said.

She further revealed that security agencies had already taken action against those who publicly threatened violence.

“Those who announced there would be attacks in Jos after Ramadan have been arrested,” she added.

The Commissioner stressed that tackling insecurity requires a collective effort, noting that the government alone cannot achieve the desired results without the cooperation of citizens and security institutions.

She also disclosed that a Deputy Inspector-General of Police recently visited Plateau State, where the governor reiterated the need for thorough investigations and prosecution of those involved.

According to her, the process of justice involves multiple institutions, including the police, judiciary, and other relevant agencies.

“Now you can see that when arrest is done, it may not go through the military, the army. The arrest will go through the police. The investigation will go through a channel.

“The prosecution will go through another; that is the judiciary, and it’s a whole team that will work on this issue to be able to bring a lasting solution,” she explained.

Authorities say further investigations are ongoing, with expectations that more suspects may be apprehended as efforts intensify to restore peace and prevent future attacks in the state.
