President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country’s electricity situation will improve in the coming days, following widespread power outages experienced in recent weeks.
Speaking on Friday at the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, the president acknowledged the ongoing challenges in the power sector, attributing them to reduced electricity generation. However, he emphasized that efforts are underway to reverse the trend.
“I assure you, many of you lamenting the problem of electricity and power; we are paying attention to that,” Tinubu said, expressing confidence that electricity supply will soon stabilize and support industrial growth.
He revealed that through the Grid Asset Management Company, the government plans to inject about 1,500 megawatts into a new power grid corridor, a move expected to strengthen supply nationwide.
Tinubu also defended his administration’s reforms since taking office in 2023, including the unification of the exchange rate and the removal of fuel subsidies—policies that have drawn criticism from opposition groups over their economic impact on citizens.
While acknowledging that the reforms have been challenging, the president maintained that they are necessary for long-term stability. He added that Nigeria is already seeing signs of progress, including improved investor confidence, renewed foreign interest in the oil and gas sector, and a heavily oversubscribed Eurobond issuance.
Reassuring citizens, Tinubu said the country is transitioning from economic hardship toward stability, insisting that the government remains committed to delivering measurable and lasting improvements.
