President Tinubu Mourns Former Super Eagles Coach Adegboye Onigbinde

 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned football administrator and former Super Eagles head coach, Festus Adegboye Onigbinde.

Chief Onigbinde, a respected figure in Nigerian football, passed away on Monday at the age of 88.

In a condolence message, the President sympathised with the family, friends, and associates of the late football icon, describing his death as a significant loss to the nation’s sporting community.

President Tinubu also extended his condolences to the Nigeria Football Federation, the National Sports Commission, professional colleagues, and football fans across the country who admired the administrator’s remarkable contributions to the development of the game.

The President commended the Modakeke high chief for his dedication to the growth of grassroots football and his role in strengthening football administration in Nigeria.

He further acknowledged the historic leadership of Onigbinde, who made history as the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982. Under his leadership, the national team reached the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations 1984, marking a memorable milestone in Nigeria’s football history.

According to the President, the accomplished football manager will be remembered for his discipline, integrity, foresight, and enduring passion for the round-leather game.

President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to his family during this difficult time.
