Explosion Hits United States Embassy in Oslo Amid Rising United States–Iran Tensions

An explosion struck the United States Embassy in Oslo in Oslo, Norway early Sunday, causing what authorities described as minor structural damage.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. local time and comes at a period of rising global tensions linked to the ongoing confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Recent retaliatory actions by Iran have reportedly targeted U.S.-linked sites in parts of the Middle East, particularly in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, where American forces are stationed.

According to police in Oslo, the exact cause of the blast has not yet been determined. The explosion damaged the entrance area of the embassy’s consular section, prompting an immediate investigation. Officers have cordoned off the scene and are searching for one or more possible suspects.

Authorities described the situation as serious and said investigators were dedicating significant resources to the case.

Police Commander Michael Dellemyr told local television outlets that officials would not yet reveal details about the type of explosion or the extent of the damage. However, he indicated that investigators have a preliminary idea of what may have caused the blast and that it could have been deliberate.

Police are also interviewing witnesses as they work to determine exactly what happened.
