Obi Vows to Contest 2027 Presidential Election Despite Ruling Party’s 30 Governors
Peter Obi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, has reiterated his determination to contest the 2027 presidential election, dismissing concerns about the ruling party’s 30 governors. “With their 30 governors, they should make the election free and fair,” Obi said, emphasizing that no individual or group has a monopoly on violence.
Obi, who defected to ADC from the Labour Party, alleges that efforts are being made to keep him off the 2027 ballot. He claims the current system is skewed against the poor and vows to prioritize education and healthcare if elected. “We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.
The former Anambra governor has been vocal about his ambitions, citing widespread poverty, unemployment, and insecurity as reasons for his candidacy. He criticizes the current administration’s economic policies, particularly its borrowing pattern, and vows to rid Nigeria of corruption.
Obi’s candidacy has sparked interest, with some analysts predicting he could defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a primary election. However, others argue that ADC risks replicating the PDP’s mistakes if it prioritizes transactional politics over competence and credibility.
