South East Youths Urged to Embrace Military Service as Recruitment Numbers Dwindle

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Army is calling on youths from the South East region to reconsider their decision to shun military recruitment exercises, citing alarmingly low application numbers from the area. According to military officials, Imo State recorded a mere 671 applicants, while Ebonyi State had only 428 applicants in the last recruitment drive, figures starkly lower than those from other geopolitical zones.

Maj. Gen. Chukwunedum Abraham (retd.) expressed concern that this trend could deprive South East youths of opportunities to serve their country and access career paths in the military, including esteemed professions like medicine, law, and engineering. Maj. Gen. Gold Chibuisi (retd.) reassured potential recruits that soldiers from the South East are not subject to unfair profiling and will receive equal treatment regarding promotions and welfare benefits.

To reverse this trend, the Nigerian Army is launching awareness campaigns to educate youths and community leaders about the benefits of a military career and dispel misconceptions surrounding service. Abia State Governor Alex Otti has thrown his weight behind the initiative, encouraging young people to consider joining the military.

Interested applicants can apply through the official recruitment portal, provided they meet the necessary criteria, including Nigerian citizenship, age, height, and educational qualifications.
