GOVERNOR ALIA REITERATES COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE, URGES ALL BENUE CITIZENS TO JOIN HANDS IN BUILDING A BETTER STATE

The attention of the Benue State Government has been drawn to certain insinuations and misinformation suggesting that His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, is not welcoming to individuals who contested against him in the last election and other stakeholders in some quarters. We categorically state that these claims are baseless, unfounded, and completely false.

Since assuming office, Governor Alia has consistently demonstrated his commitment to inclusive governance and the development of Benue State without discrimination. Upon inauguration, he made it clear that elections were over and governance had begun, emphasizing unity and collective responsibility in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.

The Governor’s actions clearly reflect this position. Several prominent leaders who contested alongside him are today working closely with his administration in the interest of the state. Notable among them are Distinguished Sen. Dr. Engr. Barnabas Gemade, former Deputy Governor Chief Steven Lawani, Hon. Terlumun Ikya, and even the current Deputy Governor, all of whom participated in the political process but have since joined hands with the Governor in advancing the development of Benue State.

In further demonstration of his inclusive leadership, Governor Alia appointed Hon. Terlumun Ikya as the Chairman, Interim Management Team of Lobi Stars Football Club, Makurdi, in demonstration of his willingness to work with competent individuals irrespective of past political contests.

While it is understandable that individuals aspire to leadership for different reasons, it is unfortunate that some continue to promote divisive narratives instead of contributing positively to the progress of the state. Leadership should never be treated as a do-or-die affair. Those genuinely committed to the development of Benue State are expected to support ongoing efforts aimed at rebuilding and repositioning the state for sustainable growth.

The Benue State Government also wishes to address another misleading insinuation alleging that the recent APC State Congresses were meant to be mere “affirmations.” This claim is completely false and misleading.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clearly directed all state chapters, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to elect party officials. Accordingly, the elections conducted across the 23 Local Government Areas were fully in compliance with party directives witnessed by INEC and representatives of the NWC.

Governor Alia remains firmly committed to delivering on his campaign promises and will not be distracted by petty politics or divisive rhetoric. His administration continues to operate an open-door policy and welcomes all well-meaning sons and daughters of Benue State willing to contribute to building a peaceful, prosperous, and united state.

We therefore urge all citizens and stakeholders to join hands with the Governor in the collective task of moving Benue State to the next level of unprecedented development.

Chief Solomon Iorpev
Technical Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication.
