The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a three-day ultimatum to waste management contractors operating in satellite towns to clear accumulated refuse or risk having their contracts terminated.
Wike gave the warning on Friday during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Karu, Bwari, Kubwa and along the Apo–Karshi corridor in Abuja.
The minister directed the Coordinator of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, to ensure strict compliance with the directive, stressing that failure by any contractor would not be tolerated.
During the inspection, Wike expressed displeasure over the heaps of refuse littering the Orozo–Apo–Karshi road corridor, describing the situation as unacceptable and embarrassing.
“Tell the contractor that by Monday or Tuesday, if I still see this refuse, his job will be terminated,” the minister said.
“This is unacceptable. It is embarrassing. These areas are no longer villages; development has taken over, and nobody will accept this,” he warned.
Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration was committed to ensuring a clean and healthy environment, adding that all refuse, particularly in satellite towns, would be promptly evacuated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister had earlier, on November 15, 2025, cautioned waste contractors against incompetence, political patronage and making excuses for poor service delivery.
He noted that waste management remained a major challenge in the FCT due to what he described as the “insincerity and lack of capacity” of some previous service providers.
“Do your work, get your pay. If you don’t do your work, don’t expect payment. It will be terminated,” Wike stressed.
