Russian Health Minister Revives Passenger During In-Flight Medical Emergency

Russia’s Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, intervened to save a passenger experiencing a hypertensive crisis, potentially preventing a heart attack, during a flight from Moscow to Hanoi. Murashko helped calm the passenger and stabilise his condition until the plane landed safely.

According to the Telegram channel Shot, about three hours into the flight, a Russian passenger suffered a hypertensive crisis, prompting the crew to call for immediate medical assistance. Among those on board was Mikhail Murashko, who was travelling to Vietnam on an official visit. He promptly attended to the passenger, providing treatment that stabilised him.

Mikhail Murashko, 58, has served as Russia’s Minister of Health since 21 January 2020. A trained physician, he previously led Russia’s federal health-supervision agency, Roszdravnadzor, and held senior positions in regional healthcare administration.

Born in Sverdlovsk in 1967, Murashko began his career as an obstetrician-gynecologist in the Komi Republic, later heading its Perinatal Center and serving as the region’s health minister. He joined federal service as deputy head of Roszdravnadzor and became its chief in 2015.

Appointed by President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s Cabinet in 2020, Murashko’s actions during the flight highlight the importance of placing experienced professionals in key government roles.
