Israel’s military announced that it has killed Muhammad Abd al-Aziz Abu Zubaida, the top leader of the Islamic State group in Gaza. According to the IDF, Abu Zubaida, who headed the group’s Palestine branch, was targeted in the Bureij area over the past week in an operation directed by the Southern Command and the military intelligence directorate.
The IDF described him as the most senior Islamic State figure in Gaza, responsible for shaping policy, planning operations and directing attacks across Gaza, the West Bank and the Sinai Peninsula. It added that the group has been involved in fighting Israeli forces in Gaza, moving weapons and channeling funds from the West Bank into the territory.
The military stressed it will continue its operations against terrorist groups in Gaza.
