The Nigerian military has recorded major breakthroughs in the fight against terrorism and violent crimes across the country, neutralising multiple threats and recovering a cache of arms and logistics supplies in coordinated operations.
In a statement released Sunday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, the Nigerian Armed Forces, working alongside other security agencies, conducted successful counter-insurgency and crime-fighting operations between June 25 and 26, spanning the North East, North West, North Central, and South South regions.
Terror Kingpin Neutralised in Zamfara
One of the most significant successes was recorded in Zamfara State, where troops under Operation FASAN YAMA of the 1 Brigade eliminated Mai Dada, a notorious terror leader, during a counterattack in Maru Local Government Area.
“In a well-planned and executed operation, troops neutralised the wanted terrorist, recovering arms and ammunition while consolidating control of the area,” Kangye stated.
More Successes Across Kaduna, Borno, and Edo
In Kaduna, troops of 2 Battalion, while on escort duty in Birnin Gwari, successfully repelled an ambush, recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the North East, supported by air components, carried out a fighting patrol in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA of Borno State, recovering:
408 rounds of 12.7mm ammo
1,200 rounds of 7.62mm ammo
Two 40mm RPG bombs
In another operation in Bama LGA, three terrorists were neutralised, and a Dane gun seized.
In Monguno, Sector 3 troops intercepted a suspected logistics vehicle supplying insurgents. Items recovered include:
65 litres of petrol
Bags of rice and groundnuts
4 bags of NPK fertilizer
Motorcycle and solar parts
2,000 empty cement bags
One suspect was arrested.
Hostage Rescue in Benue
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE in Benue State rescued five kidnapped victims during a firefight along the Peykia–Wukari Road in Ukum LGA. The abductors fled, abandoning both captives and their vehicle.
South-South Operations Yield Arrests
In Bayelsa, two suspects were arrested in Otueke with locally-made pistols and 9mm ammunition.
In Edo, troops arrested a suspect in Etsako Central LGA in possession of a pump-action rifle and cutlasses.
Drone-Assisted Ops in Plateau
Troops under Operation SAFE HAVEN in Plateau State carried out drone-supported operations across villages in Bokkos LGA, recovering weapons and flushing out criminal elements from mountainous hideouts.
