WhatsApp Group Admin Shot Dead After Removing Member

A Pakistani man has been accused of murder after allegedly killing a community WhatsApp group administrator who removed him from the chat, police reported on Saturday.

Mushtaq Ahmed was fatally shot on Thursday night in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan known for sectarian violence.

Police documents and an official confirmed that a suspect identified only as Ashfaq has been charged with the crime.

According to a statement from Mushtaq’s brother, seen by AFP, the two had a dispute, leading Mushtaq to expel Ashfaq from the group. They later agreed to meet for reconciliation, but Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and shot Mushtaq.

His brother’s statement claims Ashfaq acted “in reaction to removal from WhatsApp group.”

Easy access to weapons, traditional tribal customs, and weak law enforcement are factors contributing to such violent incidents.
