At least 14 candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have reportedly been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Benue State.
The victims were abducted during an attack on a commercial bus travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo. Reports indicate that the passengers, mostly young adults, were on their way to Otukpo to sit for their examinations scheduled for Thursday.
Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi, stating that the victims were targeted while en route to the examination centre.
“The victims are young people coming to Otukpo to write JAMB. Security agents have been deployed and efforts are ongoing to rescue them,” Ogiri said.
Security agencies have since launched a search operation, while concerns grow among families and residents over the safety of candidates travelling for examinations in the state.
