The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday called on the Federal Government to abandon any plans to increase electricity tariffs, warning that it would lead a mass resistance against such hikes.
It also threatened to halt the operations of telecommunications companies if they fail to implement the agreed 35 percent tariff increase, rather than the 50 percent previously approved by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
In a communique issued after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC stated that NEC members firmly rejected “the ongoing sham reclassification of electricity consumers by the NERC,” calling it an unjustified move to impose financial burdens on the public under false pretenses of service improvement.
