A tragic incident unfolded in the Gbonogun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as a 22-year-old housewife, Iyanu Adedeji, allegedly stabbed her husband, Funsho Jimoh, to death following a heated argument over accusations of infidelity.
The couple, who had been married for eight years and shared two children, reportedly got into a physical altercation on December 30, 2024, after Funsho accused Iyanu of engaging in extramarital affairs. According to a security source, the confrontation escalated, leading Iyanu to stab her husband in the chest with a domestic knife.
The source disclosed that Iyanu rushed Funsho to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where medical professionals confirmed him dead.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Iyanu turned herself in at the local police station shortly after the incident. She arrived with the vehicle containing her husband’s body and narrated the sequence of events.
“On December 30, 2024, at approximately 12:15 PM, Iyanu Adedeji, a 22-year-old female residing at No. 3 Ifelodun Street, Unity Estate, Gbonogun, reported to the police station with her husband’s body in a vehicle. She confessed that a dispute arose after her husband, Azeez Funsho Jimoh, accused her of infidelity,” Odutola said.
The PPRO further stated that Iyanu admitted to stabbing her husband during a scuffle and later attempted to save his life by taking him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police operatives visited the scene of the incident and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack. Preliminary investigations have commenced, and the case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
In a statement addressing the tragic event, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, urged couples to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts. He emphasized the importance of effective communication and mutual respect in maintaining healthy relationships.
This incident underscores the devastating consequences of unresolved marital disputes and highlights the need for conflict resolution strategies within families to prevent such tragedies.
