The Kano State government has announced plans to launch several initiatives aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption and promoting transparency in governance. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this announcement during the commemoration of the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day and Human Rights Day.
The initiatives include the establishment of the Kano Integrated Governance Accountability System, which will be used by civil servants and all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the award of contracts through an e-portal. This system is designed to ensure transparency and good governance.
Additionally, the state government has developed a Central Criminal Register Software, a revolutionary tool aimed at enhancing the criminal justice system, ensuring swift and fair justice, and combating corrupt practices.
Governor Yusuf also announced plans to propose an amendment to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law and work on the Proceeds of Crime Bill to ensure that recovered assets are managed transparently.
The governor emphasized the importance of protecting human rights and promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusion in governance. He commended the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission for its efforts in addressing public complaints and fighting corruption.
The Chairman of the commission, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado, vowed to continue the fight against corruption in the state. The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isa-Dederi, also commended Governor Yusuf for his support and encouragement.
The symposium, which was part of the commemoration, attracted participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in both private and government schools. The event aimed to engage young Nigerians in the fight against corruption and promote transparency and accountability in governance.
