Police Complicity Alleged in Release of Robbery Suspect in Benue State

A disturbing incident has come to light in Benue State, Nigeria, where a robbery suspect, Godwin Terna Terwase, also known as Iyav (stomach), was allegedly released by the police, sparking concerns of complicity.

According to SaharaReporters, Terwase was part of a gang that terrorized travelers on the Lafia-Makurdi highway, including a group of four men, one woman, and two children who were robbed of gadgets, personal belongings, and cash totaling over N3 million.

The assailants, dressed in military camouflage, had set up a checkpoint near Tse Pevkyaa, close to Gban Udei in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Despite passing through two other checkpoints at Kadoroko, the victims fell prey to the robbers.

One of the victims recounted how they arrested Terwase, who was found with three live ammunition rounds and four ATM cards bearing different names. Terwase confessed to the crime and provided the names of his gang members involved in the robbery.

The release of Terwase by the police has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the motives behind the decision. This incident has sparked concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing crime in Benue State.

In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested four persons in connection with alleged rape, armed robbery, and vandalism of national assets in Benue State.
