Philip Shaibu Praises Governor Okpebholo on Birthday, Encourages Youths to Stay Hopeful

Former Deputy Governor of Edo State and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his early efforts as governor and called for prayers to support his leadership. Shaibu also urged Nigerian youths to remain hopeful about the country’s future.

Shaibu made these remarks after a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City, celebrating his 55th birthday. The event was attended by prominent politicians, including Acting Governor of Bayelsa State Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, former Deputy Governor Dr. Pius Odubu, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Frank Okiye, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Hon. Razak Belo-Osagie, serving and former lawmakers, and local council chairmen.

Speaking to journalists after the service, Shaibu expressed gratitude for his life’s journey. “I am full of thanksgiving and thank God for all those opportunities and all the experiences I have had. It has been ups and downs, but God has preserved my life, from being a students’ union activist to serving as deputy governor. Despite facing ‘military dictatorship attitudes’ in a democracy, we survived.”

He encouraged young people not to lose hope in Nigeria. “Let the young ones know that your right is your right. Don’t allow anybody to trample on it. Don’t give up; there is hope in Nigeria.”

Shaibu also praised Governor Okpebholo’s governance, highlighting his prompt actions since assuming office. “So far, the governor has been very good. I am very happy with the flyover flag-off and his immediate appointments. From Day One, he did not allow governance to be in comatose. I think he has started very well.”

He called on Edo people to support and pray for the governor. “The way he can succeed is when we give him all the support, not just physical but spiritual. Let us pray for him, for wisdom and resources to deliver the dividends of democracy. Our leaders must be prayed for at all times so they will not make mistakes. We should pray for Senator Monday Okpebholo to fulfill his promises.”

Shaibu’s remarks reflect his optimism for the state’s future under Okpebholo’s leadership and his belief in Nigeria’s potential.
