Lebanese Army to Deploy 10,000 Troops to Southern Lebanon for Security and Sovereignty

The Lebanese Armed Forces announced preparations to deploy forces to southern Lebanon, according to Reuters on Wednesday.

Lebanon’s Defense Minister Maurice Sleem informed Qatari state media Al Jazeera that the army would increase its presence to 10,000 troops in the region.

He emphasized that “there will be only the Lebanese army and UNIFIL forces on Lebanese territory,” reaffirming the government’s commitment to international resolutions and Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Sleem’s statement followed a briefing to Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati about the enhanced deployment plans.

The Lebanese military, as reported by Al Jazeera, outlined that it would be augmenting its forces in the southern part of the country.

The army also issued a request for residents of border villages to delay their return until the Israeli military had withdrawn. This move aims to strengthen Lebanon’s security and maintain peace in the area. The ongoing situation reflects Lebanon’s determination to assert its control over its territory and uphold its sovereignty.
