Senate Abandons Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s Family, Fails to Attend Burial

The family of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has accused the Nigerian Senate of abandoning them during the burial of their late colleague. According to SaharaReporters, the Senate leadership failed to send key delegates or make financial contributions to the burial, sparking criticism from the family and the public.

The family challenged the Senate’s spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, to provide evidence to contradict the media report. Adaramodu had claimed that nearly 100 senators attended a valedictory session held in Ubah’s honor, but the family disputed this, saying that not more than 30 senators attended the event.

The family also alleged that the Senate leadership did not liaise with the burial committee or the family to make arrangements for the burial. They claimed that only nine senators attended the burial, representing just 8.2% of the total number of senators.

The Senate has refuted the claims, but the family maintains that they have evidence to support their allegations. The controversy has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who are calling for greater transparency and accountability from their leaders.

Senator Ubah, an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, died in a hotel in London, the United Kingdom in July. His burial was held on November 22, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State.
