Edo Governor-Elect Alleges Looting of State Funds and Assets

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect of Edo State, has raised concerns about the alleged massive looting of government funds and properties by officials of the outgoing administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki. With less than a month until the handover of power, Okpebholo accused the Obaseki administration of taking questionable loans from banks and financial institutions, while officials recklessly loot government properties, including vehicles, furniture, and even carpets.

Okpebholo expressed shock and disappointment at the widespread reports of looting, emphasizing that this behavior erodes citizens’ trust in their leaders. He urged relevant authorities to investigate the allegations thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable.

The governor-elect also cautioned banks and financial institutions against engaging in dealings that could undermine the state’s finances, particularly granting loans to the government during this transition period. He advised the Accountant General of Edo State to uphold integrity in their duty, warning of dire consequences for any acts of impunity or theft.

Okpebholo assured that his incoming administration will closely monitor the situation until the outgoing administration’s last day in office. He reiterated his commitment to zero-tolerance for corruption, emphasizing that unethical behavior will not be condoned.
