The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Venatius Ikem Esq, has attributed the party’s failure to win the 2023 governorship election to internal wrangling and disunity.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting at the Metropolitan Hotel in Calabar on Sunday, Ikem acknowledged that the party went into the election with a divided house, which led to its defeat. He took responsibility for the outcome, acknowledging that the party’s success at the grassroots level was not enough to secure victory.
Ikem expressed his commitment to reorganizing the party, putting things in place, and learning from the mistakes of the past. He emphasized that despite the loss, he is proud of the party’s performance in his zone, where they achieved a different outcome.
The meeting aimed to address the party’s internal issues and chart a new course for future success. Ikem’s candid assessment and acceptance of responsibility are seen as a step towards healing and rebuilding the party in Cross River State.
