Chad Junta Leader to be Sworn in as Elected President Amid Controversy

General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, who has led Chad’s military junta for three years, is set to be sworn in as president after a disputed election victory .

Deby’s election win has been met with opposition from various political parties in the country. The swearing-in ceremony marks the end of three years of military rule in Chad, a nation crucial in the fight against jihadism in the Sahel region.

Deby’s win has been questioned by international rights groups, who have stated that the election was neither credible nor free. Despite this, Deby has received congratulations from various world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
