Nigerians have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof. Joseph Utsev as Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, praising the ministry’s performance under his leadership. On a Radio Nigeria audience participatory programme, callers from across the country applauded the ministry’s efforts, urging them to declare a state of emergency on water and sanitation.
The callers also called for the dredging of Rivers Benue and Niger, protection of Lake Chad, and construction of more dams to ensure water availability. Prof. Utsev, who was featured on the programme, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to providing clean water and sanitation to Nigerians. He highlighted the ministry’s collaboration with state governments, Federal Ministry for Agriculture, and other agencies to address water scarcity and sanitation challenges.
Prof. Utsev also mentioned the ministry’s efforts to restore life to river basins, encourage mechanized and irrigational farming, and implement measures to reduce flood occurrences across the country. He noted that the ministry has made significant progress in addressing the needs of Nigerians in the water sector within the last year.
