Justice A.A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court has sentenced a fake American, Stephen Thomas, to five years imprisonment for impersonation and fraud. Thomas, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for impersonating an American citizen, Rolando Collins, and defrauding another American citizen, Kate Stewarton, of $100.
In addition to his prison sentence, Thomas was ordered to pay a fine of N150,000 and forfeit his Infinix X mobile phone and the $100 he fraudulently obtained to the federal government.
In related news, the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC has also arraigned two others, Bashiru Adamu and Yushau Mohammed Ahmed, before the State High Court and Federal High Court respectively for various fraud-related offenses. Adamu is facing charges for obtaining N25 million by false pretense and criminal breach of trust, while Ahmed is charged with failure to declare his assets.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to their charges and were remanded in correctional centers pending the commencement of their trials.
