The Anambra State Police Command has arrested seven persons suspected of cultism and armed robbery.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on Saturday, the suspects, all males, were arrested at UNIZIK Junction on Friday at about 10 pm.
A cut-size double-barrel gun, a tricycle without a registration number, and some hard drugs were recovered from the gang.
The suspects include Chukwuemka Ozoekwe (18), Chidozie Anagor (18), Chukwuemeka Oyeoka (18), Ebuka Okoye (17), Olisa Obi (19), Chidubem Nwakwu (20), and Nwankwo Kosisochukwu.
The police also declared Makuo Nwosu (aka Baby) and another unidentified person wanted and launched a manhunt for them.
According to the statement, the suspects confessed to being members of the Vipers Cult group and had planned to rob road users of their phones and personal belongings before their arrest.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Fidelis Ogarabe, has charged the operatives to sustain the tempo in the fight against crime in the state and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
